What is Mormonism?Mormonism is a relatively new religion in the world, having been founded by Joseph Smith in the middle of the 19th century in America. The official name of the religion is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (or LDS for short). Mormonism today is known for their family-centered churches, their missionary efforts around the world, and for their elaborate temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. The religion has also experienced controversies, such as issues concerning race and marriage. Some of the questions people want to know about Mormonism include: Who was Joseph Smith? What was he like? What did he teach? What happens at Mormon taberbacles and why is there apparent secrecy about it? And how is Mormonism the same as, and different from, orthodox Christianity? What do Mormons believe about God, the universe, people, the spiritual realm, and the afterlife? What are their values, traditions, and ethics? Who are their teachers, leaders, and followers?
