What is The Foundation for a Better Life?
The Foundation for a Better Life is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, founded in 2000. Our sole objective is to promote positive values and encourage viewers to Pass Them On. We communicate these values through inspiring messages in movie theatres, on television, billboards, radio and the internet.
Why are you doing this?
We believe that people are basically good and often benefit from a simple reminder. We offer these messages in an effort to promote good values, good role models and a better life.
How do you determine these values?
Our goal is to select values we feel most individuals will find inspiring and relevant. These values reflect the input of a large and diverse group of people. The Foundation does not have any political or religious agenda, so that people from all backgrounds might feel uplifted by these messages of encouragement and hope. Our objective is simply to promote a wide spectrum of values by providing an uplifting message around each one.
How are these messages created?
The Foundation has developed a network of writers, art directors and marketing professionals to provide technical and creative input. These individuals come from diverse backgrounds, with a wide range of viewpoints and perspectives that help us to create universal, nonsectarian, apolitical messages to hopefully provide inspiration to our viewers. We also listen and respond to stories of those who are making a difference in their communities to better understand the role values play in their desire to do good and Pass It On.
Where does funding come from to support your public service campaigns?
The advertising time and space for these messages is donated by broadcast and print media companies as a public service. Additionally, we work with many individuals to produce our messages, including celebrities who generously share their images and stories free of charge. Many publishers and record labels also contribute music for our public service announcements. We are grateful for the support of The Anschutz Foundation, which provides operating costs for The Foundation for a Better Life.
The Anschutz Foundation was founded over 25 years ago. It supports a broad variety of charitable activities that have a positive impact on people in the areas of education, health care, human services, mental health, arts and culture, and public policy. The Anschutz Foundation believes in individual and family values and the free enterprise system and seeks to promote these concepts.
Does the Foundation have any religious or political affiliation?
The Foundation for a Better Life is not affiliated with any religious or political viewpoint, either formally or informally. We do not endorse any particular political party or religion. We examine our messages rigorously to ensure we present values in intriguing, nonpartisan ways. Since inception, we have focused on our commonalities, not the beliefs that divide us. We believe anyone, from any background, can be caring, courageous, inspiring to others, or otherwise live the many values we are proud to share in our messages. Passing on respect and admiration for these kinds of positive values is our only agenda. We hope that the values we share transcend religious, political or cultural orientations.
Are you affiliated with any other organizations?
Our sister organization, The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, is the only organization with which we are affiliated. Please visit their website for ideas on how to share kindness in your community, school and family: www.randomactsofkindness.org
How can I work for The Foundation for a Better Life?
We have an extremely small staff and therefore do not typically have job openings. The best way to be a part of the Foundation is to incorporate these values in your own life and pass them on to others in your school, workplace, family and any other organization of which you may be a part. We also appreciate the many wonderful stories and comments that come from viewers like you, as they provide inspiration to other visitors of our website.
Can I join The Foundation for a Better Life?
The Foundation is not a membership organization, and we do not sponsor or endorse any groups or clubs. We do sincerely hope you will support our efforts by visiting our website and watching for the Foundation billboards, TV commercials and other messages. Incorporating these values into your own life sets a good example, which, when passed along to others, can make a difference in our world.
Can my organization partner with The Foundation for a Better Life?
We are unable to partner with or promote any other organization, person or product due to the agreements we have with those who donate their images and music to our campaigns. The best way to ‘partner’ with us is to incorporate these values into your organization: display posters, play the TV commercials, and be a positive example for others.
How can I give to The Foundation for a Better Life?
We do not solicit nor accept monetary contributions of any kind. However, we greatly appreciate the contributions of donated media time and space. If you are affiliated with a television station, movie theater, radio station, print publication, or outdoor advertising company and are interested in receiving information about participating in an upcoming public service campaign, please email us.
Can The Foundation for a Better Life give me money?
The Foundation does not give grants or provide any other financial aid. We exist solely to promote positive messages that encourage and inspire a better life.
Do you sell posters of your billboards or copies of your TV public service announcements?
We do not sell any of our materials, nor use any portion of our website for profit. Visitors to our website are welcome to print copies of the billboards for their private use. Many of our public service announcements may be viewed online.
Schools may request posters of billboards in our current inventory and DVDs of our TV commercials by filling out our request form.
Media companies who wish to broadcast our TV or radio PSAs can also request broadcast-quality materials by filling out the online form.
Each request is considered separately, and all materials are provided at no charge.
Can I download Foundation TV commercials?
We are not able to make downloads of our TV PSAs available to the general public, due to our agreements with those who donate their music to our campaigns.
If you belong to a school, nonprofit or other organization, you may request a copy of our DVD by filling out our request form.
Media companies who wish to broadcast our TV or radio PSAs can also request broadcast-quality materials by filling out the online form.
Who is responsible for contributing music to the Foundation PSAs?
We appreciate The National Music Publishers’ Association and their generous support.
We are also grateful to each publishing company and record label that has provided music for our messages, without charge. Some of these companies include BMG Chrysalis, EMI Music Publishing, Peermusic, Sony Music, Sony/ATV, Universal Music Publishing Group, Universal Music Group, Warner/Chappell, Warner Music Group, Bug Music/Windswept, Zomba Label Group, Cherry Lane, A&M Records, The Harry Fox Agency, Imagem Music and Carlin America Inc.
Some of the artists who have contributed their music to the PSAs include the Black Eyed Peas, Aretha Franklin, David Foster, Celine Dion, Jon Bon Jovi, Josh Groban, Diane Warren, Amy Grant, Kenny Chesney, Garth Brooks, Steppenwolf, Back Street Boys, Frank Sinatra and many others.
Which networks support the Foundation PSAs?
ABC, BET, Bloomberg, Bravo, CBS, CNN, CNN en Espanol, CNN International, CW, Discovery Channel, DIY Network, Food Network, FOX News, Fox Sports en Espanol, Fox Sports, FOX, FX, HGTV, ION, National Geographic, NBC, OTI, OWN, Oxygen, PBS, Real TV, Sleuth, Sorpresa, SPEED, Telefutura, Telemundo, Travel Channel, Univision, USA, the Armed Forces Network and many other independent stations. We could not do what we do without them.
Which movie theatres support the Foundation PSAs?
Our commercials are often played in movie theatres on lobby screens and ahead of feature films. We greatly appreciate the generous support of the theatres currently supporting us: Regal Cinemas, Cinemark, Edwards Theatres, United Artists Theatres, AMC Theatres, National Cinemedia and Cinema Concepts.
Why do the Foundation's commercials appear on certain television or radio programs?
We do not pay for any advertising or sponsor any program. All the Foundation’s messages are aired by the media as a public service. Because all of this media space is donated, we are unable to select when or where our messages appear. Our PSAs are often placed in unsold advertising slots, which means the Foundation does not and cannot target certain messages to specific programs, broadcasts, time periods, geographic locations, etc. We hope the messages generate positive thought and inspiration, no matter where they catch your eye.
